RADA acquires the lease of the Drill Hall

From this January RADA has acquired the lease of its neighbouring venue, The Drill Hall on Chenies Street. The building will now be operating under the name of RADA Studios.

The acquisition of the lease will help to ensure the Academy’s financial self sufficiency in the future, providing further opportunity for income generation and sustaining us as a charity. We will be developing our venue hire operations as well as expanding our education and outreach work while continuing to support community based activities.

We will be using the building to expand our own activities as well as build on opportunities already developed by Central London Arts (trading as the Drill Hall) in performing arts, educational and community theatre activities.

Through the purchase of the Drill Hall, we seek to maintain our position as a world class drama academy offering training to those with talent irrespective of their financial position.

The Drill Hall is a local theatre and arts centre established in 1977. The building offers some of the most sought after rehearsal spaces and radio and television recording services in London. RADA will continue to offer these spaces under the name of RADA Studios.

Virtual Communication - Webcam and Conference Call Training

RADA Enterprises is embracing technology with our new Virtual Communication Course.

This practical one-day in-house course explores how to communicate successfully during tele-conference meetings and conference calls.

Whether it is due to cutting costs, or more teams being spread across geographical locations, more and more meetings are conducted remotely. Clarity of communication is vital as technology such as webcam and conference calls have a greater role in our lives.

The training will allow you to adopt some simple techniques to help you communicate effectively and understand how your body language translates on to a screen, and how your vocal delivery carries along a telephone line.

THE 2011 RADA BUSINESS LUNCH

The Ninth Annual RADA Business Lunch, RADA’s annual charity fundraiser, took place on 02 November at The Savoy. The event was a huge success, raising over £130,000 for the Academy.

The Business Lunch is one of the many ways in which RADA raises funds to support the training of exceptionally talented students.. support and nurture the talents of gifted young people. The Academy prides itself on providing the best possible facilities and exceptional teaching, tailored to the needs of each individual student. It currently costs £30,000 a year to train a RADA student, which is why events such as the Business Lunch are fundamental to the continuation of the Academy.

Former students David Morrissey and Alex Roach hosted the event and effortlessly guided guests through an afternoon of fine dining and an array of entertainment. The presence of our alumni this year was strongly felt, with guest speakers including Richard Wilson and Alex Kingston and Gemma Arterton hosting our game of True or False. We were also pleased to be joined by some of our more recent graduates: Arthur Darville, Seline Hizli, Michael Benz and Craig Fletcher.

Guests also enjoyed a performance by current third year students of excerpts from Stephen Sondheim’s musical Saturday Night, one of the shows due to be performed at the Vanbrugh Theatre in the spring. The performance was electric and transported guests back to 1929 Brooklyn, New York, where a group of middle-class bachelor friends are restless on Saturday nights.

The Savoy was a fantastic venue on the day, whose help and support was crucial in the smooth running of the event. We would like to thank everyone for all their support and look forward to seeing you all again next year.
